There's something dirty -- not unclean, just sexy -- about this place, for our money the best bathhouse in a city full of them. Even off-hours, when it's quiet, you'll find something to make you happy. Dark, quiet, but very hot. If you can get an appointment with one of the terrific (and very legit) masseurs here on weekends, grab it; they charge an insanely low C$39 for a full hour of nirvana. Lockers cost C$10.50-$11.50, and cabins are C$12.50-$13.50 for 12 hours, double rooms are C$40. With 60 lockers, 130 rooms, it feels like a gay mecca. Le 456 bills itself as the largest sauna in North America, and few will disagree. It's a bit difficult to find, on a short avenue that runs parallel to the main drags of Montréal (a block south of Rene Levesque), in an office-looking building across from a scary-looking church. Door staff is warm, and you'll see a sauna, showers, and pool upon entering, and there are two levels of rooms, with the second floor being straightforward doors and corridors and a third floor of sleazy graffiti, glory holes, and a dark room. Very well-maintained and clean facility. Everything from bodybuilders (one whole floor is a gym) to senior citizens, with anyone in between, which is a huge plus. Wear sandals; the carpet can get grotty.
