Formerly The Unicorn and the place where the famous porn flick "Fallen Angels" was made, Steamworks has extensive facilities, including video room, large wet area, gym and private rooms as well as a fetish room with sling. It's very clean and regularly updated, and probably one of the country's best spaces, though pricey as a result. Chalkboards in the bathrooms make for a fun way to communicate your needs. Mostly younger, Caucasian crowd of under-40s and lots of beefcake, but still a good mix. Open 24 hours, but best late at night (there's usually a wait for rooms after midnight) or Sunday afternoons. Street parking is very hard to find; you should consider getting a taxi. Membership $6 for six months, rooms $20-$50 depending on size, lockers $14 or $7 weekdays 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Steamworks in Chicago is well run relatively clean bathouse of three floors. It has an active steam room, hot tub, bj room, and gym. The rooms are small and basic but clean and most are nicely mirrored. The staff it pretty attentive. Generally, a good place to go. There is usually some action even in off hours. Sometimes it gets very crowded. It's the best in Chicago although that doesn't mean much as there is only one other bathhouse as far as I know. I often go there to meet friends for a private room, but cruising is the rule. I've heard people say the members have an attitude but I haven't seen it.
